Strobilurin fungicides with wide spectrum action on phytopathogens of cereal spiked crops are the one of the promising among the pesticides with fungicidal action.
There are three strobilurins previously authorized for cereal spiked crops protection in Ukraine. It was azoxystrobin, tryfloxystrobin and pyraclostrobin that were authorized for cereal spiked crops protection.
Finding out and implementation the new efficient and safe fungicides are the one of the tasks in present conditions of antifungicidal resistance formation.
The new strobilurin picoxystrobin (UIPAC: methyl (2E)-3-methoxy-2-{2-[6-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridyloxymethyl]phenyl}acrylate) has been proposed for cereal spiked crops protection.
Toxicological evaluation of picoxystrobin allowed establishing the following. This active ingredient according to the "Hygienic classification of pesticides by hazard" (SSR 8.8.1.2.002-98) was pertain to IV class of hazard by acute oral and dermal toxicity, to II class by acute inhalation toxicity. Picoxystrobin is a low irritant of skin (III class of hazard), moderate irritant of eyes (II class), and not a sensitizer (IV class of hazard). Picoxystrobin, azoxystrobin, tryfloxystrobin, and pyraclostrobin are pertaining to II class of hazard by acute inhalation toxicity as a limiting criterion.
Picoxystrobin, as a mentioned above other stobilurins, has polytropic action with prevalence of effects on liver in subacute, subchronic and chronic toxico-logical studies.
Picoxystrobin has no long-term effects (oncogenicity, mutagenicity, teratogenicity, effects on reproductive system and embryofetal and developmental effects) as azoxystrobin, tryfloxystrobin, and pyraclostrobin.
Comparative analysis of toxicological profiles of picoxystrobin and other strobilurins (azoxystrobin, tryfloxystrobin, and pyraclostrobin) allowed drawing a conclusion about its similarity to these substances by the toxic properties.
